Q: Why haven't I received my tax refund from the IRS yet?
A: You can find the status of your tax refund HERE or, if you are looking for your Amended return refund you can find it HERE.
Note: If your return was electronically filed, you should receive your refund within 21 days. If your return was filed by paper, it can take 4-8 weeks for the IRS to issue the refund. If you had an amended return, the IRS can take up to 16 weeks to process the return.
Q: How long will it take to complete my tax return?
A: Once we have received all of your documents for the applicable tax year, on average your return will be sent back to you for review in 3-4 weeks. If we are missing any documents someone from our office will contact you as soon as possible.
Q: How can I provide my tax documents or other sensitive information?
A: We prefer all documents be uploaded to our online portal, SmartVault. If you don't have access to your account, please contact our office and we can help. Although we are streamlining our documents online, we still love to connect with our clients face to face, so don't hesitate to reach out via phone to schedule an in-person, Zoom, or telephone consultation!
Q: How do I pay the IRS?
A: You can pay via check made out to "United States Treasury" or on the IRS Website.
Note: If you are paying the balance due on your tax return, you will select "balance due" as the reason for payment. If you are paying your quarterly estimated tax payments you will select "estimated tax."
Q: "I just received an letter from the IRS, what do I do??"
A: If you are a current client, please contact us by phone or email and scan/upload the document to the portal. We will take care of the rest for you!
Q: I don't have a scanner at home or work, is there a way I can send you my documents still?
A: Scans are the best way to send us documents as pictures can be blurry and hard to download. To help out, we have created a template HERE that walks you through how to use your iPhone to turn your documents into scans. It really is that simple!
Q: How do I speak with my CPA regarding tax prep, questions, etc.?
A: Please call our office and we can get you scheduled for an appointment with your CPA.
Q: How long do I need to keep my tax records before shredding them?
A: As long as you have uploaded your documents to our online portal, SmartVault, you will never have to worry about record keeping as it securely stores your documents. If you choose to hold onto your paper copies, the IRS requires you keep 3 years from the date you filed your original return.
